Week 9 of social isolation / Week 8 of stay-at-home order.

The stay at home order has technically been lifted as of Friday (May 15). We are now in the “yellow phase”. Robert arrived in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and is now quarantining in my apartment. Meanwhile, I’m currently typing this in a robotics prof’s backyard.

Here are the past few week’s yummies:

炸醬麵, grilled cheese + bloody mary, Oxtail and Red Wine Stew

My mom recorded a video of my grandpa explaining to me how to make 炸醬麵. He had explained to me how to make it once, but completely neglected giving quantities for any of the ingredients. Needless to say, it was a complete fail. This time quantities were specified. But 外公 and 外婆 both didn’t mention having to add water. I mean now it seems obvious but when you’re following a recipe you just don’t think of these things! Anyway, It was a bit too thick but otherwise it’s delicious!

腐乳空心菜, 紅豆牛奶冰棒, Cinnamon Date Sticky Buns

I ordered a cast iron pan and popsicle molds! The red bean pops separated, which was a bit annoying. I put too much sugar in the dough of the buns, so it was a bit too sweet. Also, I sent a picture of my dough to Eileen and she thinks I’m not kneading or hydrating the dough enough.

蘿蔔糕, mozz-filled arepa, Tendies + fries + Chikn

The 蘿蔔糕 was slightly bitter and not fully set, but otherwise flavor was ON POINT. Santi taught us how to make arepas during Tartan Salsa cookalong. And I was craving fries so we got some Chikn for our Dissertation Writing Group.

Some things are not pictured because I forgot. The main ones I can think off the top of my head are:

  1. Fogo to go, in which I also dropped my phone and cracked it. So upsetting. This is truly all coronavirus’s fault.
  2. Homemade pizza!
